A meeting was convened on January 18, 2016 to review the annual work in 2015 and plan for the year ahead. Chaired by Lorelei Liu, Director of the WEM and Chief of the WEM’s Construction Office, the meeting was also attended by the leadership of the museum and the Construction Office as well as heads of relative departments.

The meeting went through the question list and suggestions drawn from the year-end department meeting, covering a series of topics including the construction project, exhibition and preparation, operation and accommodating, talent recruitment, financial support, headcount and expenses, team building and collaboration, etc. 

Regarding the abovementioned issues, heated discussions were carried out during the meeting to mull over the future developments with an emphasis on key points and difficulties forecasted in 2016.

The meeting made it clear that the uncertainty of exhibitions is very likely to pose challenges to the WEM’s opening. Therefore, concerted efforts shall be made to tackle problems in confidence with detailed planning and timely promotion so as to ensure the completion of three major missions, namely the exhibitions, the construction and the operation of the new museum. In the meantime, the WEM should get well planned in the aspects of “human, financial and material” resources with top-level design in place, establish sound mechanism, enhance soft power, and fulfill all preparation tasks to embrace the grand opening of the new museum.
