A talk of WE TALK Expo Forum titled “From ‘Extreme Value ‘to ‘Optimal Solution’ – Evolution of Expo Exhibits” was taken at Cloud Hall of the World Expo Museum (WEM) on the afternoon of May 19.
Speaker Yu Zhenyu, Deputy Director of the WEM, used to take charge of media publicity of Expo Shanghai. With over ten years of experience in the field of World Expo, he is a senior Expopractitioner.
Speaker Tao Cheng, WEM librarian, has been engaged inmedia asset management for large events like the Olympic Games since 2008. She ever worked as media asset management director for official broadcasters of the Asian Games and the World University Games.
At the start of the talk, Yu Zhenyu, Deputy Director of the WEM, introduced how he became attached to Expo. The first time he got in touch with the words “World Expo” was in 2002, and closely followed, he experienced five sessions of Expos successively in 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2015, including general Expo and specialized Expo. Over ten years of work experience for World Expo has made him a senior Expo practitioner. He stressed that the “experience” level of everyone is an important standard for the WEM to eventually realize its function of social education.

An audience is reading a letter sent out 160 years ago
Speaker Tao Cheng invited the audience to emotionally read the diary, letter, article and the like written 160 years ago, and then analyzed why people’s experience to World Expo was so different. He also had a view to Expo evolution from the changes of Chinese names for “World Expo”, so as to deduce that every piece of Expo exhibits was of an “Extreme Value” of a certain field at that time, reflecting people’s desire of pursuit for progress. The evolution of Expo management, host and participation is an “optimization” of human civilization resources, and also the untiring pursuit for the “optimal solutions” to Comprehension, Communication, Congregation and Cooperation.
At last, the talk also gave a presentation to the evolution of Expo exhibits, and an instruction about “How to view and appraiseexhibits”, a topic that the public are commonly interested in.
According to her introduction, “WE TALK” (World Expo Talk) is a main brand and platform to carry out the WEM’s function of social education. It can be understood as the “World Expo Talk”, as well as the “Talk of Us All”. The WEM hopes to make use of the platform to change the world with the power of thinking way, and share the innovations brought in with Expos in the fields of city, technology, ideology, art, design and so on. In the future, the Forum will invite some noted experts and scholars to open up the new milestone of social education for the public from a brand new vision.
