Arctic weather may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of Expo 2020 Dubai, but Finland plans to bring snow to the UAE desert with its eye-catching country pavilion.

Inspired by the country’s stunning winter landscape, the design of Finland’s ‘Snow Cape’ pavilion pays tribute to ‘the land of a thousand lakes’.

With an entrance that gives visitors the impression of arriving at a traditional Arab tent – albeit one made of snow – the structure offers a uniquely Scandinavian twist on Middle Eastern culture.

Finnish components and building materials play an important role in the pavilion’s design, drawing from the nation’s rich architectural heritage. The building aims to provide a haven of clarity and serenity within Expo 2020 Dubai’s bustling site.

The pavilion’s cubic exterior is simple yet refined, while its gorge-inspired carved wooden interior will offer visitors a cool and shady retreat.

Located in Expo 2020’s Mobility Thematic District, the Finland Pavilion will emphasise the country’s focus on cultural exchange as well as its closeness to nature, in line with the World Expo’s theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.

Finland is the latest country to reveal the design and theme of its pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. More are expected to follow in the coming months.
