The purpose of launching Logo Design Solicitation for World Expo Museum (hereinafter referred to as “the Solicitation”) is to select a Logo with design that conforms to the requirements and the position of the World Expo Museum, as well as to popularize the World Expo Museum’s vision to become “Window to the World, Source of the Innovation”.
World Expo Museum
World Expo Museum (WEM) is one of the key cultural projects in Shanghai’s Twelfth Five-year Plan. It is scheduled to open to the public on May 1st 2016. It is located on the former site of Expo Shanghai 2010, on the Puxi Side, on a land area of 4 hectares and a construction space area of 46,550 square meters.
World Expo Museum is the sole official museum and documentation center of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), and is the result of a bilateral cooperation between the BIE and the Municipality of Shanghai.
Created to preserve the legacy of World Expos and to promote their vision, the positioning of World Expo Museum is “Window to the World, Source of Innovation”. It will showcase the history of World Expos, the significance of Expo Shanghai 2010 and the ambition of future Expos and therefore provide visitors a good chance to experience popular culture.
The construction design of World Expo Museum is centered on the concepts of “World Expo Memory” and “Urban City Life”. On the one hand, the building is designed as a “ Container of Joyful Memories” that will preserve the most memorable moments of each World Expo; on the other hand, the building is also designed as a "Living Room inside the city" that will provide a space for visitors to participate to cultural activities and for citizens to explore, experience, create and share the joy of life.
We are committed to building an open and future-oriented World Expo Museum for all that will present the different cultures of the world shown at the Expos and share the relentless search for progress of Expos. Therefore World Expo Museum will strive to become a world-class innovation-focused institution as well as a center for cultural activities that will diversify the city’s cultural environment.
The Positioning of the World Expo Museum, “Window to the World, Source of Innovation” has multiple meanings. From a semantics point of view,“world” reflects WEM’s global ambition and the international nature of the BIE; “window” indicates its exhibition nature as a museum; “innovation” refers to the core of WEM exhibitions; “source” not only implies the ideology of “Everything begins with Expo”, but also demonstrates the unique feature of the museum of inspiring wisdom and creating the future.
The positioning "Window to the World, Source of Innovation" is driven by 5 key aspects that will fuel all activities and exhibits of the museum:
Futurity
The museum displays both the history of the past and the dream of the future, keeping abreast with the world and updating incessantly;
Dynamic
Visitors will be able to interact and communicate with the whole world in the museum;
Wisdom
The museum hopes to share the wisdom learned from Expos and enable visitors to understand how our life has been changed as a result of the innovative ideas and thoughts of mankind;
Enlightenment
Apart from helping visitors explore the unknown world and expand their horizon, the museum will ignite the power of inspiration, imagination and innovation;
Globalization
The museum also brings together multiple cultures, innovative technologies and leading arts, enabling visitors to feel the pulse and catch the trend of the world.
In this context, the visual identity of the museum, with the logo at its core, will be a vital part of the brand building effort of the World Expo Museum. It will be part of all activities including promotional events, media campaign, publicity materials, souvenirs, as well as organization and business cooperation.
