  World Expo Printmaking Workshop

On the afternoon of October 27, the first World Expo Printmaking Workshop was open. The instructor picked several World Expo posters as models and the participants made silkscreen prints on them, creating their own unique paintings.

In the warm space of WEM, they experienced the charm of the printmaking art and were amazed by the imprints of time.

  Printmaking and World Expos

Expo 1851 London: A Woodcut Print

Printmaking is an important category of visual art and an important way of artistic expression. Printmaking has both the general indirectness of artistic expression and the unique aesthetic characteristics of pluralism and imprinting. As an imprinting art, printmaking retains artistic imprints and naturally carries the imprint of time.

World Expos are global economic, technological and cultural events. WEM is the only museum in the world to collect and exhibit the legacies of World Expos, preserve the essence of World Expos, and maintain and expand the Expo effect. The art of printmaking has a close link with World Expos.

WEM Temporary Exhibition:"Expo Heritage - Exhibits Collection from World Expos"

WEM keeps a large collection of prints as historical legacies of World Expos. In the first World Expo in London in 1851, printmaking was already used to record the gorgeous scenario of the great exhibition and create a large number of art works. Later, posters of World Expos, as well as pictures, leaflets and commemorative towels, were mostly printed.

Shanghai is the cradle of woodcut printing in China. Expo 2010 Shanghai is a major event of Shanghai to connect with the outside world. In short, there are inextricable links between printmaking and Shanghai and World Expos.

At 1 pm on October 27, the first World Expo Printmaking Workshop was held at WEM (first floor, Southern Zone). The printmaking instructor, Huang Yixian, first gave a lecture on the history and themes of World Expos and the theme of WEM. Everyone had the first idea the charm of silkscreen printing and the culture of World Expos. After the lecture, it was a hands-on session.
